About the coach

Coaching built on evidence, not habit.

I'm Kip Abbott, founder and head coach of Abbott Elite. I coach from a constraints-based approach, because swimming is built on motor learning — that's not only how beginners acquire the right skills, it's how experienced, already-successful athletes keep improving theirs. I believe "feel for the water" is a teachable skill: when an athlete can feel it, they learn new skills intuitively and transfer them readily to racing. Every analysis I deliver is designed to build exactly that.

What sets the coaching apart

Four beliefs I won't compromise on.

Assessment before advice.

One priority at a time.

Healthy mechanics are fast mechanics.

Parents are part of the team.

Who this is for

If they're in the water, I can help.

Developing swimmers

From first competitive strokes to a first state cut — foundations built correctly the first time, at a pace that keeps the sport fun.

Championship racers

State champions chasing national and collegiate levels — race analysis, split strategy, and the details that decide close finishes.

Cross-sport athletes

Triathletes and CrossFit athletes — a more efficient stroke means faster splits on less energy, and a body that holds up to the training you already do.

How it shows up in your analysis

Process-driven. Athlete-tailored. Parent-inclusive.

The Broken Science Initiative

The same questions I ask of swim technique deserve to be asked of everything an athlete is handed — training dogma, supplement claims, nutrition headlines. When athletes and parents want to sharpen that instinct, I point them to The Broken Science Initiative. I don't offer nutrition coaching; I'd rather teach you to evaluate anyone who does.
